Two of my best friends, Tomás and Diana, are from Argentina and Colombia respectively. Seeking adventure, we had originally planned to go to Peru, but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see our friend’s home city: Buenos Aires. And so just as the first year of my MBA program had come to an end, I boarded a flight to South America.

We rendezvoused at the airport and took a cab to our Airbnb, arriving late into the night. The next day we began our adventure on foot, walking past many government buildings and universities – eventually arriving at the waterfront.

The city felt like a hybrid of new and old. The architecture felt antiquated. The fashion styles however, were modern if not fashion forward. And the street art? Oh, the street art!

We walked until our feet could walk no more. Dinner was a delicious pasta meal, soured only by our misunderstanding of Argentinian tipping courtesies. And for desert: wine-soaked pears with vanilla ice cream!

Each day, we explored a new part of the city. Some areas were great for photography, while others for shopping!

We visited the famous Caminito, dancing the tango all the while.

I learned of the football rivalry between Club Atlético Boca Juniors and Club Atlético River Plate. Because Tomás was a diehard Boca fan, we visited their home stadium.

We did “the extra touristy thing” and took a train to a small river town northwest of Buenos Aires known as Tigre. From there, a relaxing boat ride allowed us to enjoy the scenery.

Pizza in Argentina is unique! Aside from the fresh and filling cheese, Argentinians often put a chickpea flatbread known as fainá on top of their pizza – essentially making it a pizza sandwich. Delicious!

Before our adventure came to an end, we explored nightlife attractions and hipster food places, saw a play in which famous Argentinian film stars were acting and even took a tango class!

Most deliciously, the 29th of every month is Dia de Ñoquis — the Day of Gnocchi in Argentina. We celebrated accordingly!

I wouldn’t say that Buenos Aires was one of my favorite places to visit, but in the company of good friends it was an adventure most worthwhile.
